Answer

| Testing |
How do I tell if my water is safe to drink? |
You can not test for everything that might be harmful. There are hundreds
of things that can be tested for. Even when testing is done it only tells you how much was there at the time of
test. The test can not predict the future. For a more detailed answer, go to "Testing Recomendations"
on this site. If you are on a public water system, check for consumer confidence reports
on your water supply. |

Filters
Why does my filter backwash in the middle of the
day?
The most probable cause is that the time clock is not set for the correct
time of day. Try checking your clock and reset
the time if necessary.
Automatic Filters
Why is the water pressure low?
The filter may not be back-washing frequently enough, you should do a manual backwash and set the backwash frequency
for a shorter time between backwashes. (i.e. once every six days to once every four, etc.)
Cartridge Filters
Why is the water pressure low?
The filter is probably full and needs replacement. Replace the filter
cartridge and remember to put a quarter teaspoon of bleach into the filter sump to kill any bacteria introduced
from changing the filter. You should not use the water for 10 minutes. If you have a filter cartridge with a by-pass
valve in the assembly, please remember to put it back into the service position.

Odor
I have a water treatment system, but I am getting
a "rotten egg" smell. What is it?
You may have hydrogen
sulfide in the water and your system may not be designed to address
this issue.
You may have a bacteria growth in the system or filter cartridge. If
you have a filter cartridge, change it and clean the sump with bleach, rinse, add a quarter teaspoon of bleach
and put the new filter in.

Blue/green staining
I have a water treatment system and I am getting
blue and green staining. What is it?
It is typically copper. The water is being aggressive and eating the
copper plumbing. It will need to be neutralized. We recommend using an automatic solution feed system to correct this problem
as it is fully adjustable should the water parameters change.

Bacteria
I have had my water tested and have bacteria.
What can I do?
The easiest is typically to use an ultraviolet light disinfecting system.
Make sure to choose one that has the correct safety features
A solution feed chlorination
system which introduces chlorine into the water to kill the bacteria.
This system must be sized for the correct water flow rate and must have a water storage tank capable of holding
a ten minute reserve capacity of water to achieve the proper contact time with the chlorine. If there is any iron
or manganese in the water, the chlorine can cause the water to change color. This color is due to the precipitate
created with the reaction of the chlorine with the iron and manganese. The precipitate would then require a filter.

Brown Staining
My clothes are turning brown and my dishwasher
is brown. What is it?
This is typically due to manganese in the water. This is easily solved using a water softener.
Costs
What does a filtration system cost?
This varies, but an average installed whole house system can range between
$1200 - $2900 . . . depending upon what is being treated.
Crusting
Why is there a thick crust on my shower head?
This is typically a calcium build up due to hardness in the water and
can be treated with a water softener.
Dry Skin
Why does my skin feel dry and my hair straw like,
even after a shower?
Typically it is due to hardness in the water and can be treated with
a water softener.
Nothing
Seems to
Work |
I have tried to filter my water to remove the cloudiness
but nothing works not even a back-washing filter installed by a water treatment company. What's Wrong? |
More than likey you have colloidal material in your water.
You will probably need a flocculation
system or ultratfiltration. |
Radon
Can I have Radon in my water?
Yes. If you have a well, it is very possible and should be tested for.
