Air & Water Quality Glossary

pH

The ratio of acidity to alkalinity is represented by the pH of the water. The range of pH can be from 0-14. Neutral water has a pH of 7 (acidity = alkalinity) . If the pH is below 7 (acidity > alkalinity), we say the water is acidic, and, if the pH of the water is above 7 (alkalinity >acidity), we say the water is alkaline.
